This full-day guided tour takes you beyond a simple circuit of viewpoints, connecting the island’s plantation past with the communities, landscapes and conservation projects shaping it today.
Travel by car from Santo António with time to explore historic roças, visit the coast and swim at Praia Banana. Lunch is included, so the day can unfold at the island’s natural pace without rushing between stops.

Your Full-Day Route
Roça Paciência
The first stop is Roça Paciência, once a satellite estate of the larger Roça Sundy plantation. Cocoa and other crops are still grown here, while carefully preserved buildings provide a window into Príncipe’s plantation history.
The estate is also associated with the Paciência Organic project, which connects agriculture, local production and the conservation of the surviving roça architecture.
Roça Belo Monte and the Northeast Coast
Continue to Roça Belo Monte, one of Príncipe’s best-known restored plantation estates. Visit its museum and viewpoints before travelling towards the beaches of the northeast.
This part of the island brings together dense green hills, volcanic coastline and clear Atlantic water. Stops and viewpoints can include Praia Banana, Praia Macaco, Bom Bom and Praia Boi, with views towards the small Mosteiro islet.
Swim at Praia Banana
Praia Banana is one of Príncipe’s most recognisable beaches, a curved strip of pale sand enclosed by forested headlands. There is time to stop, enjoy the coast and cool off in the water when conditions allow.
The beach is beautiful, but the journey is part of the experience. The roads and viewpoints reveal how quickly Príncipe changes from working plantation land to forest and isolated coastline.
Santo António and Lunch
Return to Santo António for lunch at a local restaurant serving Portuguese and island dishes.
A short walk or drive through the capital introduces its central squares, colourful buildings and everyday activity. Santo António is one of the world’s smallest capitals, but it remains the commercial and social centre of Príncipe.
Roça Porto Real
The afternoon continues at Roça Porto Real. Visit the local cooperative where discarded glass is transformed into jewellery and other handmade objects.
The former plantation hospital offers a striking contrast. Its abandoned structure is gradually being recovered by vegetation, showing how quickly the forest reclaims buildings once they are left behind.
