The São Tomé itinerary is flexible, allowing you to explore independently. Distances are short and the roadbook covers every suggested stop.

Part One: São Tomé Island

Day 1: Arrival & Coastal Soft Landing

Arrival:

Land at São Tomé International Airport (TMS). Complete arrival formalities and take the arranged hotel transfer to Omali Lodge.

Your Stay:

Settle into your selected room. Omali sits opposite Praia Lagarto, close to the airport, in tropical gardens with a swimming pool and restaurant.

Evening:

Unwind after your flight, enjoy a drink by the pool and choose dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

Overnight:

Omali Lodge (Bed & Breakfast).

Day 2: Central Highlands & Artisan Chocolate

Morning:

Collect your Suzuki Jimny 4x4 at Omali, or meet your arranged driver.

The Route:

Head inland towards the Central Highlands, where old coffee plantations and mountain rainforest provide a striking contrast to the coast.

Suggested Stops:

  • Roça Monte Café, including its coffee heritage and processing facilities.
  • Cascata de São Nicolau, surrounded by mountain vegetation and giant tree ferns.

Lunch:

Consider Casa Museu Almada Negreiros for a relaxed meal.

Afternoon:

Return towards the capital. A visit or chocolate tasting at Claudio Corallo can be arranged separately, subject to availability.

Overnight:

Omali Lodge (Bed & Breakfast).

Day 3: Down the East Coast to the Wild South

The Route:

Drive south along the scenic coastal road, passing fishing settlements, former plantations and tropical landscapes.

Suggested Stops:

  • Roça Água Izé and its colonial hospital ruins.
  • Boca do Inferno, where Atlantic swells crash through volcanic rock formations.
  • Viewpoints of Pico Cão Grande rising above the surrounding forest.

Lunch:

Choose the restaurant at Roça São João dos Angolares or Mionga for local food.

Late Afternoon:

Continue towards Porto Alegre and Praia Vanha.

Check into your ocean-facing wooden bungalow at Delícias das Ilhas, surrounded by tropical vegetation on Bastien's vanilla and spirits estate.

Overnight:

Delícias das Ilhas / Praia Vanha (Bed & Breakfast).

Day 4: Ilhéu das Rolas & Organic Vanilla Estate

Morning:

Travel to the southern boat departure point for your included private motorboat crossing to Ilhéu das Rolas.

Explore the Equator Monument and discover the island's coastal scenery, volcanic formations and beaches.

Lunch:

Enjoy local fish or seafood at Praia Café, purchased separately.

Afternoon:

Return to Praia Vanha for your included organic vanilla plantation experience and Vim Pema Gin tasting.

Discover how vanilla is cultivated, hand-pollinated and cured, and learn about the estate's production of artisan spirits and fruit liqueurs.

Evening:

Relax at Praia Vanha after a day of island exploration.

Overnight:

Delícias das Ilhas / Praia Vanha (Bed & Breakfast).

Day 5: Pacing North & Pre-Flight Base

This is your final full day on São Tomé before travelling to Príncipe.

The Route:

Travel north from Praia Vanha towards São Tomé city.

After driving north from Praia Vanha, check into Omali first. If you feel like more driving, explore Lagoa Azul and the northwest coast in the afternoon, or simply relax by the pool before tomorrow's flight to Príncipe.

Optional Northwest Coast Exploration:

  • Lagoa Azul, with swimming and snorkelling when sea conditions are suitable.
  • The rock tunnel near Santa Catarina.
  • The fishing community of Santa Catarina.
  • Roça Diogo Vaz, with cocoa plantation visits available by arrangement.

Suggested Lunch:

Consider Santola in Neves or the restaurant at Mucumbli if travelling along the northern coast.

Evening:

Return the hire vehicle at Omali. Enjoy dinner and cocktails, conveniently located for the next day's domestic flight.

Overnight:

Omali Lodge (Bed & Breakfast).

Part Two: Príncipe Island

Day 6: Flight to Príncipe & Rainforest Arrival

Morning:

Take the arranged transfer from Omali to São Tomé Airport for your domestic flight to Príncipe.

The flight normally takes approximately 40 minutes, with departure time and operator dependent on the travel date.

Arrival:

Your chosen Príncipe Collection hotel provides an airport transfer to the property.

If You Choose Sundy Praia:

Settle into your 1-Bedroom Forest Villa, surrounded by tropical vegetation.

The villa combines spacious wooden interiors, a four-poster bed, an indoor living area and a large private wraparound terrace.

Take time to discover the resort's beach, swimming pool and wellness facilities.

Your stay includes a welcome massage for adults, breakfast and a daily shared guided experience.

Evening:

Enjoy Sundy Praia's atmospheric OKA Sundy Restaurant.

Overnight:

Days 7, 8, 9 & 10: The Príncipe Sanctuary

Enjoy four full days on Príncipe, with time to experience the island's remarkable natural environment and relax at your chosen property.

Your Príncipe Collection stay includes a shared guided experience programme organised by the hotel.

Príncipe offers outstanding coastal scenery, including Baía das Agulhas, where steep volcanic peaks rise above the Atlantic.

Where the connection allows, a stop at Omali for day-use facilities, relaxation or dinner can be requested separately.
