The top-tier property on either island and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Sundy Praia sits on the northwest coast of Príncipe where mature forest runs down to the sand. Arrival involves a thirty-minute 4x4 transfer along unpaved roads, signalling its remote setting.
The Tented Villas
Fourteen tented villas set among almond and banana trees, raised on screw pile foundations so the forest floor stays largely intact. Inside, they feel more like private houses than tents: indoor and outdoor living spaces, four-poster beds with nets, stone baths facing the forest, and private plunge pools in selected villas. Units are spaced widely apart to eliminate noise and light spill.
Dining & Estate Produce
Dining takes place in the open bamboo structure of O Coconuts restaurant. Menus focus on fresh local fish and organic produce harvested directly from the surrounding Roça Sundy plantation estate. Breakfast is included daily with every stay.
Historical Significance
The wider Roça Sundy estate is historically renowned: the 1919 solar eclipse observations that confirmed Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity took place right here on this plantation.
