About This Tour
This six-hour hike takes you deep into São Tomé's tropical rainforest to one of the island's least-visited waterfalls. The route passes through the coffee plantation landscape of Monte Café before descending into river valley jungle, with the waterfall as the centrepiece of the day.
At 16 kilometres with 400 metres of elevation gain, the trail is long but the gradient is manageable. A normal fitness level is sufficient. What it offers is sustained immersion in some of the island's most beautiful interior scenery: rivers, dense canopy, exotic vegetation and mountain views throughout.
Lunch is taken as a picnic on the trail, prepared and carried by your guide.

What to Expect
Monte Café Coffee Plantations
The route begins in the highland coffee plantation zone around Monte Café, one of the most atmospheric agricultural landscapes on the island. Your guide explains the history of coffee cultivation and how it shaped the communities of the interior.
Tropical Rainforest and River Valley
As the trail descends towards Vale do Rio, the landscape shifts into deep jungle. Rivers cross the path and the vegetation becomes increasingly dense. Endemic plants, birdlife and the sound of running water define this section.
Vale do Rio Waterfall
The destination: a hidden waterfall reached after roughly three hours of hiking. Time to rest, swim if conditions allow, and take in the surroundings before the return.

Picnic Lunch on the Trail
Lunch is included and taken as a picnic in the forest, prepared by your guide using local ingredients.
