About This Tour
This walking tour is flexible, informal, and shaped around your pace and interests. It usually begins in central São Tomé city, with the exact meeting point arranged in advance. Many guests like to start with coffee or chocolate, and both can be built into the route.
The route is not fixed. It shifts depending on what is open, what feels lively, and what interests you most on the day. On a typical walk, you might pass the pink façade of the Presidential Palace, step inside the main cathedral, and continue through the old colonial square towards the National Museum. There is time to pause at local stalls, enter churches, take photographs of daily life, or sit by the harbour and watch the city move around you.
What makes this tour different is who leads it. We work with English-speaking university students studying at USTP. That gives the experience a more personal and grounded feel than a standard commercial city tour, while also helping support local students working towards their degrees.
What to Expect
Praça da Independência
Start in the main square, surrounded by the colonial administration buildings that shaped the city's layout from the 1500s onwards.
Presidential Palace and Cathedral
Walk past the pink façade of the Presidential Palace, then step inside the Cathedral Igreja da Sé, one of the oldest churches in sub-Saharan Africa.
National Museum
